Assembly and Trial – Run of Plastic Injection Molds

When we did plastic injection mold assembly and trial. It elaborates on the preparations before assembly, the specific assembly steps, and the important points in the trial – run process, aiming to provide practical guidance for relevant technicians.
Injection molding is a crucial process in the production of plastic parts, and the quality of injection molds directly affects the quality and production efficiency of plastic products. The assembly and trial – run of injection molds are important links in ensuring the normal operation of molds.

Part Cleaning: All injection mold parts should be strictly cleaned to remove processing – . For high – precision components such as cores and cavities, it is recommended to use an ultrasonic cleaning machine for deep processing to ensure that there are no microscopic particles on the surface.
Dimensional Re – inspection: Use a coordinate measuring machine or laser scanning equipment to re – inspect the key dimensions to confirm that the tolerances meet the design requirements. For example, the fit clearance between the guide pillar and the guide bush should be controlled within 0.005 – 0.01 mm to avoid offset or wear during mold component closing.
Core Assembly: For small cores, there are several assembly methods such as transition fit assembly, threaded assembly, nut – fastening assembly, and screw – fastening assembly. The edge of the core press – in end should be ground into a small arc. For large cores, first press a solid positioning pin sleeve into the core, then determine the position on the fixing plate using red lead powder, drill screw holes and countersink holes, and finally drill and ream the pin holes and press in the pins.

Cavity Assembly and Trimming: For integrally inserted cavities, if there is a directional requirement, after pressing in a small part, use a dial indicator to correct the position and finally grind the cavity and the template flat together. For assembled cavities, the joint surfaces of the assembled blocks should be ground after heat treatment. During the assembly and press – in process, a flat backing plate can be padded at the press – in end to prevent the assembled blocks from being misaligned.
Assembly Requirements: After assembly, the parallelism error of the mold installation plane should be less than 0.05 mm. After the mold is closed, the parting surface should be evenly and closely fitted. The guide pillars and guide bushes should slide flexibly, and the ejector pins and the stripper plate must move synchronously during part ejection. After mold closing, the cores of the moving and fixed mold parts must be in close contact.

Appearance Inspection: Check the closed height of the mold component and its matching dimensions with the Plastic injection mold machine, the ejection form, the mold opening distance, and the working requirements of the mold. Large and medium – sized molds should have lifting holes or lifting rings for easy installation and handling. The acute angles of the exposed parts of the mold component should be blunted. Ensure that all joints, valves, accessories, and spare parts are complete, and the mold should have a mold – closing mark. The surfaces of the molding parts and the gating system should be smooth, without pits and obvious scars.
Empty – running Inspection: After plastic injection mold closing, there should be no gaps between the parting surfaces, and they should be tightly joined. The moving cores, ejection, and guiding parts should move smoothly, and the locking parts should be safe and reliable. When the mold is opened, the ejection part should ensure smooth demolding. The cooling water should be unobstructed, and the electric heating system should have no leakage.
The assembly and trial – run of plastic injection molds are complex and crucial processes. Only by strictly following the correct procedures and paying attention to every detail can we ensure the quality and performance of the molds, and lay a solid foundation for the subsequent production of high – quality plastic products
